Better known as: Chiyo-chan

Chiyo-chan is a ten-year-old girl who has skipped all the way to the first year of high school. She is, as the students call her, tensai (a prodigy). Chiyo is smart and shows it: she frequently scores 100% on tests and assignments, much to the chagrin of some of the other girls, but mostly one in particular. She is sweet, cute, and very kind and friendly to just about everybody, going out of her way for her friends often.

Chiyo-chan's problem is the physical side of high school. She dreads the yearly athletics festival, for she perceives that she drags down the rest of the class. She takes lots of abuse (mostly unintentional) from the bigger students and even some of the teachers. Chiyo works hard, though, despite her physical limitations.

The Mihama family is wealthy, and Chiyo-chan's house is a frequent hang-out for birthday parties, school project work, and good, old-fashioned study fests. Her beach home is also a destination for summer vacation parties, which provide some of the most memorable moments in the series. Poor Chiyo-chan seems to remember the actual drive to the beach house more strongly, though. Overall, she is well-liked by everyone, even though a certain student and teacher seem to treat her a little off.

Chiyo-chan has a pet dog, Tadakichi-san, and her closest friends among the girls are Osaka-san and Sakaki-san.
